Parrotfish Food Cubes

Among the main reasons for our failure to keep certain species in the home aquarium, is their specialized diets and feeding behaviours. The bony beak of the Parrotfish is used to break off bits of corals and sponges which it eats. Here's a tip on how to simulate this food source in your tank. Make up a small batch of Plaster of Paris at a ratio of 1lb. mix to 8oz. of cold water. When this heavy paste is well mixed, add in some finely chopped spinach and about 6oz. of pelletized dry food. Form the mixture into small balls and allow to harden for 2-4 hours. Store in a sealed Ziploc (or similar) bag in the freezer. Feed two to three times a week. Don't hesitate to experiment with different food items, but be careful of moisture content and its effect on the plaster hardening. For a more natural appearance, press the drying mixture onto a decorative coral pieces or into coralline shapes. This diet can be beneficial for not only Parrots but other troublesome pickers and grazers such as Moorish Idols, Butterflies and Angels.

''Only in America'' has become a phrase that often has negative connotations. Usually, it's used to describe something that's either tabloid fodder, untalented yet very successful, or both ( Paris Hilton, anyone?).
